Operation Surf Returns to Huntington Beach June 3 - 9, 2018
-- Surf Program Helps Wounded Veterans Find Healing, Compassionate Mentorship and a Renewed Sense of Their Potential –
(HUNTINGTON BEACH, CA) May 2, 2018 – Surfers in Huntington Beach have long known how catching waves can strengthen both the mind and body.
This June 3 – 9, more than two dozen wounded veterans and active duty personnel will come to Huntington Beach to experience a powerful week of
those healing waves with Operation Surf.
A globally recognized program that changes the lives of wounded military heroes one wave at a time, Operation Surf teams differently-abled veterans with highly qualified surfing instructors for a weeklong recreational and rehabilitative surf camp.
For these veterans, the physical challenge of surfing provides a special kind of healing, mentorship and hopefulness for their future.  For many of these veterans, this is the first time they are partaking in such a strenuous physical activity, and participating in Operation Surf offers them a chance to come together with others in similar situations and explore their capabilities.
It’s a life changing experience unlike anything any other.
Operation Surf kicks off with the veterans’ arrival at John Wayne Airport on Sunday, June 3, followed by a police and veteran escort and heroes welcome at the Pasea Hotel & Spa in Huntington Beach. Opening ceremonies will be Monday, June 4 at 9am at Pier Plaza, after which the veterans will begin their surf training.
At last year’s Operation Surf program, veterans persevered through the pounding waves with determination, and experienced the stoke of surfing as they caught their first waves. Their experience in the ocean translates to a powerful sense of optimism out of the water.
Operation Surf is a program of Amazing Surf Adventures, a non-profit that has helped more than 500 active duty and veteran heroes. Founded by former professional surfer Van Curaza, Amazing Surf Adventures and Operation Surf have been recognized around the world for their positive contributions and life-saving experiences for wounded veterans.
